Why does Yahoo Pictures have so many more users than Flickr, which they own, and which is vastly superior?

I am an avid Flickr user (http://www.flickr.com/photos/stuckincust... ) but I also know that the total user base in Flickr is dwarfed by Yahoo Pictures. Why? Why doesn't Yahoo push all picture traffic to Flickr instead?

I have no idea what "Yahoo Pictures" is --- Do you mean Yahoo! Photos? If so, I find that it is superior to Flickr for my needs. I like the way I can organize photos into albums and can edit the photos to crop them, get rid of red eye, lighten them, and more. I also find it a snap to get prints of any photos. The mail service is great and sending the photos to Target for printing is incredibly easy and inexpensive.

Yahoo! Photos and Flickr are two entirely different services with different features and uses. I just don't see the need to compare them. Apples and oranges.
Reply:Because most people (including me) have never heard of Flickr...

Yahoo is such a huge name that they could start selling Peanut Butter and would take a huge share of the market just on their name....
